London, April 10.
The Dominion Office announces that it has been agreed by the Governments of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth that the shipments of chilled beef from Australia be increased to 56,000 cwt. for arrival in the United Kingdom in April-June, - provided the total shipments of frozen and chilled arriving ‘in the quarter do not exceed 331,000. The Australian Press Association says that the agreement gratifies the Australian Ministers, .who have thus achieved the first definite result. The British concession means that Australia .is entitled to ship only 4000 cwt. of chilled beef less than the 60,000 Australia sought. It is understood that the agreement involves a corresponding British concession for other Dominions.

Rec. 10 p.m. Canberra, April 11. Following receipt of news of the agreement this morning the actingPrime Minister, Dr. Earle Page, announced that permits would be issued immediately for the shipment of an additional 26,000 cwt. of chilled beef to England. Dr. Page said the agreement reached at London meant that the meat export position with Australia had been settled for the second quarter, and the discussions between the Australian and British Ministers would now be confined to the long-term policy to operate from July 1.
