Practical Farming Course.
Arrangements have been made between the Auckland Boys’ Unemployment Committee and the Government for 50 youths to receive a short course in P rac^i farming at the Ruakura State Farm. The committee will select the boys most likely to benefit by the course, and m addition to the practical work they will be given some elementary instruction, in scientific farming. The course will take place during two weeks in June, when the full-time students at the school will be on vacation. The necessary accommodation will be provided by the Government, and the Unemployment Board will pay the cost of the boys’ board, provide travelling expenses and give each of the students 5s pocket money.
Saturday shoppers in New Plymouth are reminded by Scanlans Ltd. not to leave their shopping too late as all the retailers are closing at noon sharp on account of the special race meeting at the New Plymouth racecourse. Shoppers are requested to make an early start so that the usual Saturday morning rush may be coped with.*
