MANGATOKI SCHOOL

CHAIRMAN’S ANNUAL REPORT. A meeting of the Mangatoki school committee was held on Monday night. Those present were Messrs. J. H. Andersori, W. Carlson, J. L. Taylor and B. H. Parker (chairman and secretary). A donation was received from the basketball club. It was decided to grant the club the use of the s&hool ground for its games this season. The head master’s report stated a roll number of 76 and an average of 68.3. Helpful advice had been received from the inspectors who had visited the school, recently. The report asked for firewood to be siipplied in smaller lengths. The chairman stated the wood had been ordered early to avoid delay later, and in the only lengths obtainable. Arrangements' had already been made for a machine cutting. The balance sheet of the combined Christmas free showed a credit balance of £2 10s Bd.

The chairman’s annual report stated that meetings had been well attended. The general. account showed a credit of £1 10s lid.; and the special account a credit balance of £9 Is lid. The sum of £l3 3s was received in donations and special efforts by .the committee. The annual picnic at Opunake was a complete success. There was a credit balance of £2 3s. The committee was ably represented on the Eltham District Dental Clinic Committee by the chairman of that body. Messrs. J. H. Anderson and'J. 1 L. Taylor had regularly attended the Sotith Taranaki school committee association meetings and kept in touch with matters affecting the childrens’ welfare. The chairman stated he was convinced parents appreciated the good work being done by these delegates and the committee.

Sports had been encouraged during the year and materials supplied. Due attention had been given to the buildings, grounds, extensive lawns and gardens etc. ,

The chairman thanked the committee and teaching staff for their loyal support. The relationship had been cordial and all had worked for the welfare of the school and children.

, Mr. Carlson reported that good progress was being made by the Dental nurse in overtaking the arrears of work of last year. He outlined a proposal for subsidising the parents’ contribution, enabling all children who were eligible to have attention. The matter of raising funds for this was deferred. Support for the mobile dental clinic campaign was promised. The secretary was congratulated on the auditor’s complimentary comment on the presentation of the school committee’s accounts.

Mangatoki Tennis. A full meeting of the Mangatoki Tennis Club committee and officers was held on Monday evening. It was decided to finalise the outstanding Cup matches on Thursday and a club day is to be held on Saturday when the two finals would be played. To wind up the season a tournament was arranged. The annual ball will be held about the end of April. Full arrangements for this were discussed and finalised. Mr. J. Lambie, president, thanked Mrs. L. R. Pease for her hospitality. / - -
