BASKETBALL AND CRICKET. DISTRICT PERSONAL ITEMS. /. - - The Kiwi Basketball Club held its annual meeting in the Okau hall at the week-end. A full attendance was present. The president, Mrs. Hayward, was in the chair.

In her report she congratulated the girls on their performance for the first year. They played in a good sporting spirit, and she requested them to continue, as not only was it the best way of playing the game, but it also earned the respect of all. She also congratulated the club on the state of the finance, the balance sheet showing a credit of £3 Ils lid. She thanked the committee and the girls for the assistance given her as president. The following officers were elected: ■President, Mrs. Hayward; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. E. Shaw, T. Hayward and W. Schmidt; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. I. Johnson; selectors, Messrs. E. Shaw and T. Hayward; committee, Mrs. Jemmieson, Misses D. Anderson and E. Johnson; Relegates to union, Mesdames T. Hayward and J. Jemmieson; auditor, Mr. J. H. Bower.

It was decided to start practices in a fortnight’s time. The following were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their services: Miss M. Carr, Mr. and Mrs. Collins and family, Messrs. D. McMurray, J. Cannell, T. Hayward. During the week-end a party of 18 visited Okau from New Plymouth, and an enjoyable game of cricket was played. Each side batting 15 men and fielding 11. Okau won. Lunch and afternoon tea were served by Misses D. Anderson, A. Shaw, L. Heron,' L. Jemmieson. Mr. Villars, on behalf of the New Plymouth party thanked the Okau team for the fine day’s outing and their hospitality. Mr. H. L. Lewis replied on behalf of the Okau- Club, and the women. New Plymouth scored 29 and 34 (K. O’Donnell 18). Okau scored 67 (H. O’Donnell 10, P. Richards 12, J. Cannell 12) and 39 (J. Cannell 13). Personal. Miss E. Jolly, Kaikohi, is spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs. W. D. Cannell. Mrs. Don Bower and Mrs. W. W. Johnson are in a private hospital. Both are progressing favourably. Mr. W. W. Heron is still in the New Plymouth Hospital but his condition is improving.

Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Bezzant have returned from hospital and are progressing slowly. Mr. J. H. Little, the new school master, took up his duties on April 8. Mr. W. W. Johnson and family motored to New Plymouth on Sunday to see Mrs. Johnson.
