TAINUI WINS CUP

TONGAPORUTU TENNIS TROPHY. URUTI DEFEATED IN FINAL. Playing on the Tongaporutu courts at the week-end a Tainui tennis team defeated Uruti by 11 sets to eight sets in the final match for the Tongaporutu Cup. There was a large crowd present, and the games were very interesting, especially the match between J. Waters (Tainui) and A. G. Oxenham. Oxenham led-7—o, Waters winning 9—B after a good display of hard driving. . Results, Tainui mentioned first, are:— Men’s singles: L. Bartlett beat J. Oxenham 9—2, J. Waters beat A. Oxenham 9—B, T. McNeice beat E. Oxenham 9—3, D. Montgomerie lost to Knofflock 7—9, H. Bryant lost to V. Boyes 4—9, K. Bryant lost to W. Oxenham 2—9.

Women’s singles: Miss L. Bartlett beat Mrs. Johnson 7—2, Mrs. Marsh lost to Mrs. Meredith 3—7, Miss McMicken lost to Mrs. Bell 6—7, Mrs. C. McNeice beat Miss. Smith 7—l.

Men’s doubles: Bartlett and McNeice beat Knofflock and A. Oxenham 9—G, Waters and Bryant lost to J. and E. Oxenham -2—9, Montgomerie and K. Bryant lost to Boyes and W. Oxenham 4—9. Women’s doubles: Miss Bartlett and Mrs. Marsh beat Mesdames Johnson and Bell 7—3, Miss McMicken and Mrs. C. McNeice-lost to Mrs. Meredith and Miss Smith 5—7.

Combined doubles: Miss Bartlett and Bartlett beat Mrs. Meredith and A. Oxenham 9—3, Mrs. Marsh and McNeice beat Mrs. Johnson and J. Oxenham 9—B, Miss McMicken and Waters beat Mrs. Bell and Knofflock 9—2, Mrs. C. McNeice and Montgomerie beat Miss Smith and E. Oxenham 9—B.
