COUNTY COUNCIL CHAIRMAN.

CR. FARQUHAR'S RETIREMENT.

Before the conclusion of business at the Egmont County Council yesterday Cr. Young complimented the chairman, Cr. W, C. Green, on the manner in which he had conducted the meetings. He had allowed plenty of latitude to members and they had taken keen interest in the work. Cr. Farquhar thanked the Press for the fair treatnient it had given the council, and expressed pleasure at the aeconjplishments of the council. He intimated that he would not seek reelection, * ' . \ Other councillors endorsed the remarks of Cr. Young and expressed pleasure at sitting under Mr. Green’s chairmanship. “ Cr. Tosland said that although there had been sharp interchanges between them there had always been a vein of friendship and there was no ill-feel-ing. The chairman reciprocated the compliments and added his thanks to the clerk, Mr. G. W. Rogers, for his excellent service, Mr. Mclver (the engineer) and the staff- He regretted that wages had been cut, but he hoped the halfday on Saturdays could be restored. He thanked the Press for fair reports and adequate publicity, The chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to Cr, Farquhar on his retirement, and expressed appreciation of the excellent service he had given the county during his term of office. Cr. Tosland endorsed this view. He paid a tribute and spoke to the sincerity of Cr. Farquhar, whom he had known for over 25 years.
