DIAMOND JUBILEE
INGLEWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOL. PREPARATION OF FESTIVITIES. There was a good attendance last night when a meeting of the Inglewood school diamond jubilee committee and others interested in the jubilee was held. Mr. M. Sutherland, who presided, mentioned that those present would gather from the minutes of the previous meeting that the jubilee should also be the means of raising money for the improvement of the new school ground. In his opinion an effort should also be made before the jubilee, and he thought that a queen carnival or weekly dance would help the funds considerably. With regard to the proposed memorial service to be held on the first day of the jubilee, Mr. Sutherland said, he had written to three old pupils of the school who were ministers and one definitely would be present to conduct the service. Mr. Coles reported the list Of addresses of old pupils had been completed, but there were some whose addresses had not been obtained, and he appealed to all to forward addresses. Mr. Maetzig stated that a full programme for the sports day .had been drawn up, and it was intended to hold a procession from the old school to the new with the pupils in their various decades. Discussion also took place on the advisability of purchasing badges for the jubilee, and it was decided to purchase 700 badges in the school colours—black and white. The choosing of the colour of the ribbon for the various decades was left to Mesdames Farquhar and Winfield and Misses Tarry and Brown. As the procession will leave the old school at noon on May 13 the business people are to be asked to close their premises at 11.30.
