STRUCK BREAKWATER
GREYMOUTH HARBOUR MISHAP.
VESSEL’S PROPELLER DAMAGED.

■ When crossing the Greymouth bar at 8.45 this morning the steamer Mernoo, 1405 tons, took a slight sheer and grazed the south breakwater. Captain F. W. Cox, harbourmaster, was in command at the time.
The vessel proceeded to the wharf, where a preliminary inspection disclosed that the tips of three blades of the propeller were damaged. The Mernoo is now being loaded forward with timber' to lift the propeller and enable an examination to be made. She was drawing Bft 6in forward and 12ft lin aft on arrival. There was a considerable swell on the bar this morning with an inclination for it to make.
