MUSIC TEACHERS

NEW PLYMOUTH BRANCH MEETS. MANY PLEASANT EVENINGS. With a successful year to review the New Plymouth branch of the Music Teachers’ Association held its annual general meeting on Saturday night. Miss E. L. Dowling presided over about 50 members and moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance. , Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. R. N. Renaud; president, Miss E. L. Dowling; vice-presidents, Mrs. K. Anderson (Hawera) and Miss C. Leatham. On account of such a large percentage of the branch being associate members it was decided to form a general com’mittee consisting of 10 members, five of these to represent the associates, while the other five represent the professional members and also act in the capacity of council. Mrs. B. B. Weller was reappointed honorary secretary and was voted an honorarium of £5.

Miss Dowling thanked Mr. L. R. Retter. who acted as honorary auditor, and Mrs. A. H. Avery together with the rest of the supper committee for their valuable help at all evenings. It was proposed by Mr. A. Griffiths that in future artists should perform from the stage instead of from the floor as has always been the case. The motion was easily defeated on the grounds that the object of the association was to have musical evenings in the form of socials and not to be run along the lines of concerts.

Items pleasantly rendered by Miss Dowling, Mrs. P. C. Davie and Mrs. L. Cooper concluded ,the meeting.
