COLTS STILL IN WINNING VEIN.

HAT TRICK ACCOMPLISHED TWICE.

There were no surprises in the North Taranaki senior B competition on Saturday. New Plymouth Colts won easily against Central, and New Plymouth, Western Park B and Old Boys also had wins. For Colts Avery secured the hat trick.

In the junior grade Waitara beat Kiwi easily on the first innings, and New Plymouth had an innings victory over High School. Western Park turned the tables on Old Boys in a low scoring game. COLTS MISS FOUR POINTS. GAME OF AVERY AND STEWART. Colts could not dismiss Central in time to secure a four-point win. Central batted first for 83 (Lawrence 27, C. Hunt not out 22, Stevens 10). Avery took five for 42, including the hat trick, and Autridge four for 36. Colts passed the total for the loss of two wickets and scored 176 (Stewart 69, Bowen 22, South 21, Autridge 20, Wilson 20 retired). Elder took four for 42 and Lawrence three for 18. In a second strike Central made 46 for five wickets, Lawrence contributing 25. PARK B MAKES GOOD TOTAL. Western Park B batted strongly in the early stages against High School, having 159 on for four. The innings was declared with ,9 wickets down for 208 (Ford 55, Bruen 41, Haughton 27, Webster 22, Morris 20 and Phillips 11). The score was made in 25 overs, Papps taking two for 3 and the others sharing the wickets. School had six down for 35 (Chatfield 12), hut Eggleton (35) and Challis (21) took the score to 93. Morris bowled 12 overs and took six for 16. Ford hit 424464 — 4 in one over. \ NEW PLYMOUTH BATS WELL. Okato went in first against New Plymouth to reach 99 (Putt 34 not out, Roberts 22). Parkin took five for 37. New Plymouth arrived at the score desired for the loss of five wickets and improved the score over the final wickets to 190 (Des Forges 55, Ulenberg 38, Parkin 31, Edgecombe 10, Wiseman 10). Roberts took five for 43. OLD BOYS’ NARROW WIN. Old Boys beat Western Park A by 15 runs on the first innings, scoring 129 to 114. For Old Boys, Petty made 32, L. Harris 23, Johnson 20, E. Harris 15, C. Sorensen 13, N. Wright 10. Beard took three for 14. Western Park had six down for 60, and a final flutter did not bring the score completely to Old Boys. Pope made 33, Robertson 25, Anderson 14, Thomason 11., E. Harris took four for 8. Junior competition. FOUR POINTS FOR NEW PLYMOUTH. Playing High School at High School, New Plymouth secured a four point win. With Wolfe (50), Hoffmann (31) and Shaw (12), New Plymouth reached the total of 139 in an hour and a-half. Fluker took five wickets for 50 and Damey two for 24. High. School made 46, of which Moorhead contributed 24, the wickets going easily before the bowling of Shaw (seven for 7 runs). High School followed ,^n,'.' : this: time making 41 (Moorhead 12). O’Sullivan three for 5, Shaw three for 18 and Gayton two for 12 caused the trouble. HAT TRICK BY GEARY. In a low scoring match Western Park defeated Old Boys on the first innings. Opening, Western Park made 74 (Geary 20, Carey 13 and D. .Nichol 10) making the best individual totals. Six of the wickets fell to Saunders for 25 and two to Scoble for 23. Old Boys went cheaply for 43, Scoble being the only one to reach double figures with 17. Woods bowled well to take five for 11, and Geary took four for 24. McKoy, Old Boys’ consistent “bat, reached the 500-run mark for the season during this match. In' the next innings Western Park went for 56 (Wheeler 13), Saunders again taking the majority of the wickets with five for 25, and Scoble accounting for two for 5 runs. Old Boys again took the crease to make 63 for 9 wickets. Those to reach double figures were Sole 18, McKoy 10 and Somerton 10. Geary took five for 32, including the hat trick, and Woods took four for 16. = WAITARA’S 134-RUN MARGIN. At Waitara on Saturday the Waitara junior team had an easy win over Kiwi by 134 runs in a one-innings match. Waitara batted first and ran up a total of 148 runs, Attrill 46, Ellis 27, George 16, White 15, Kershaw 12 and Jupp 11. Kiwi was quickly dismissed for 14 rims. Bowling for Waitara White secured six wickets for 4 runs. Kershaw took the other four for 6. Stevenson for Kiwi took five wickets and Fraricis four.„.,< v THURSDAY COMPETITION. ROWAN BEATS KAPONGA ELEVEN. The Kaponga Thursday cricket team suffered its second defeat on Thursday when the team failed by four runs to reach the innings total of 126 scored by the Rowan team. The match was played at Victoria Park, Kaponga, in ideal weather, Rowan batting' first. Kaponga fielded a weakened team, many of the players being absent. E. Smith and C. Rowe batted brightly for Rowan, Rowe carrying his bat for 40 and Smith being caught when at 38. D. Hollard (18), G. Riddick (9) and G. Cuff (8) batted well. For Kaponga Busing was in great form, his score of 63 including eight fours and one six. Evans, Goodwin and Taylor all reached double figures. The bowling of both teams was severely punished and both sides resorted to numerous bowling changes. The match was decided on the first innings, Rowan scoring 126 and Kaponga 122. Thursday’s game was the last of the first round. Oeo is leading, being two points ahead of Riverlea, Rowan and Kaponga, each of the last-named three having an equal number of points. Oeo has lost one match and the others two matches each. The second round will commence on Thursday.
