VETERAN’S DEATH AT AUCKLAND. NORTHERN FLEET DESIGNED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 21. Mr. George Gow, who. was for 34 years superintendent of the Northern Steamship Company, died to-day. Mr. Gow, who was in his 79th year, was at one time the only naval architect in New Zealand. He designed and superintended the construction of many well-known vessels in the Northern Company’s fleet. In 1894 he was appointed superintendent of the company, a position he held until his retirement in 1928. The building programme which he carried out for the company included the Rarawa, Ngapuhi, Apanui, Aupouri, Ngatiawa, Taniwha and Hauiti. Mr. Gow drew plans and specifications for these and subsequently superintended their construction on the Clyde.
