FAST YOUNGSTERS
FAIRFAX FANCIED Although the New Plymouth double winner Hororata is not engaged at Hawera, there is speed galore among the youngsters carded to contest the Juvenile Handicap to-day. In November the Limond-Joanfax filly Fairfax made her racing debut in the Avondale Stakes. In that race, even when liaving her first outing and running greenly, Fairfax produced outstanding pace and ran the champion “baby,” Galilee, to a short head. Like Golden Wings, Fairfax’s trouble is that she is flighty at the barrier. Providing she fares reasonably well at the start to-day Fairfax has the pace to trouble the rest of the youngsters.
Life Guard comes from the Noi-th with a reputation, and for five furlongs there is no question about his speed. Silver Wings was a good youngster last autumn, and now is the time of the year that she may come right again. However, her form so far this season can only be described as disappointing. . The bracketed pair from tire North, Velocipede and Triune, are both endowed with good turns of speed, and both have been fairly consistent placegetters to date this season. Joy Box was unlucky in his New Plymouth outings, while Grateful’s showings were good enough to give her reasonable chances.
Eara gained a winning bracket at Wanganui recently, but her display was ‘nothing to write home about.
