BRITAIN’S TRADE

INCREASES STILL MAINTAINED. BOARD OF TRADE RETURNS. (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 5.5 pan. Rugby, Jan. 14. The full Board of Trade returns for 1934 are now available. They reveal a considerable expansion in overseas trade. During the year imports were of the total value of £732,330,823, representing an increase of £57,314,704 over 1933. The value of exports in 1934 was £396,107,545, an increase of £28,198,492. Re-exports at £51,263,472 were £2,182,745 higher than in 1933. , , December trade figures are also published. Imports for the month at £63,262,544 showed a decrease compared with November of £1,424,803, but an increase of £104,136 over the corresponding month of 1933- December exports, £34,300,382, were lower than those of the previous month by £1,824,882, but represented an increase of £3,870,818 over December, 1933. Re-exports last month, £3,605,689, showed decreases of £402,601 and £836,846 respectively. The principal increases for December compared with December in the previous year were: Imports, grain and flour, £889,000; textile materials, £419,000; rubber £917,000; non-ferrous metals manufactures, £435,000; exports, iron and steel and manufactures thereof, £310,000; machinery, £918,000; vehicles, £628,000 Decreases: Imports, raw cotton, £537,000; wool, £1,625,000.
