Crashing from a height of 100 feet when leaving the aerodrome at Tararua Road yesterday evening, an aeroplane was considerably damaged, its two occupants escaping with minor injuries. The mishap was caused by the jamming of the rudder-bar. The pilot momentarily lost control, a steep nose-dive resulting. The plane, a Hermes-engined AvroAvian piloted by Mr, A. Greenaway, Levin, with Mr. J. Kane, Masterton, as passenger, was en route to Palmerston North. Both occupants suffered shock and bruises. Kane also received a broken nose, but his injuries are not serious. The machine was very badly damaged. The under-carriage of the plane was smashed and the fuselage was destroyed as far as the rear of the cockpit. Three wings were crumpled. The damage to the engine has not yet been ascertained. The plane will probably be removed to Palmerston North. It is owned by Mr. Kane, who was the passenger during the flight. He received medical attention and was able to proceed to the house of a friend.
