They discovered the house in flames, and at risk of his life the father rushed in from the sun-porch and snatched the child from its cot in the burning bedroom. He was himself burned, but the child was not injured. A dog in the sun-porch had not awakened to give the alarm. The couple saved only a camp stretcher and a bed from the house, in which they had been resident for only six months.
