LARGE WESTFIELD YARD

MEDIUM CATTLE DEMAND FIRM. BIG OFFERING OF PIGS. Auckland, Nov. 28. The prolonged spell of dry weather brought another large yarding of cattle to the weekly Westfield, sale, about 900 head being offered. There was a keen demand for medium and lightweight cattle, values being very firm at late rates. Heavy and extra heavy sorts were easier. A big yarding of cows and heifers, including many dairy sorts of good quality, was in keen demand, but inferior sorts were hard of sale. Extra choice ox beef made 27s per 1001 b; choice and prime, 24s to 265; secondary and plain, 20s to 235; prime young cow and heifer beef, 21s to 255; other cow beef, 13s to 20s. Extra heavy prime steers made £lO 7s 6d to £lO 17s 6d; heavy prime, £9 to £lO 15s; lighter prime, £7 12s 6d to £8 17s 6d; light prime, £6 12s 6d to £7 10s; small and unfinished, £4 15s to £6 10s; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £6 to £6 17s 6d; heavy prime, £5 to £5 17s 6d; lighter prime, £3 Ifts to £4 17s 6d; other killable cows, £1 10s to £3 7s 6d. Calves again were offered in large numbers. The sale was dull at the beginning, but improved later. Heavy sorts were scarce and sold well, lighter at about late rates, and bobbies improved a shade. Runners, 32s to 85s; vealers, 15s to 635. Wool prices did not affect the sheep market, few stores being offered. A more than average yarding included some very prime lots, particularly wethers, and a ready sale resulted, with values very firm on last week. Hoggets sold well, and lambs were at about late rates. Wethers, prime, 21s to 26s 3d; unfinished, 16s to 21s; ewes, prime, 13s to 19s 6d; unfinished, 5s to 12s; hoggets, 16s to 23s 9d; lambs, prime, 16s to 22s 9d; unfinished, 8s 9d to 14s. The drying up of dairy pastures brought a large offering of pigs, many of which were unfinished porkers, which

were easier. Heavy prime baconers were very plentiful and selling under very brisk competition, 120 sold consecutively at over £3 10s a head. Generally schedule rates ruled. Stores vere very firm at late quotations. Porkers, 35s to 51s; baconers, 53s to 735; large stores, 24s to 335. Prices per lb, baconers, s’Ad to 5%d; porkers, 6d to 6!4d.
