STEADY BURNSIDE SALE

FAT CATTLE SELL WELL. FALL IN SHEEP VALUES. Dunedin, Nov. 28. There were heavier entries in the beef, mutton and lamb sections at the Bumside sale to-day. More than 400 fat cattle were yarded, with prime quality in larger supply, and there was a steady sale from start to finish, with prices for bullocks averaging from 25s to 30s less than last sale, and cows and heifers 15s lower. Extra prime heavy bullocks sold to £l2 ss; prime heavy, £9 2s 6d to £lO 7s 6d: medium, £7 17s 6d to £8 17s 6d; light and medium, £6 12s 6d to £7 12s 6d; extra prime heavy heifers, to £7 17s 6d; medium cows and heifers, £5 7s 6d to £6 7s 6d; light and medium, £3 12s 6d to £4 17s 6d. The entry of store cattle numbered 305 head and included several consignments of steers. A pen of well-bred four and five-year-old steers sold at £7 ss. Vealers and cull cows sold firm at late rates. The dairy cows forward numbered 26, and competition was confined to young cows close to profit, up to £4 10s being obtained. The fat pig market attracted an entry of 200, and prices were easier both for baconers and porkers. Best baconers sold to £3 Ils, and prime quality porkers to £2 Bs. Store pigs met a steady market and sold at satisfactory prices.

The entry of 2308 fat sheep were mostly shorn,, and of those in wool the medium ewes were not attractive, and these suffered a drop in value of 2s 6d and 3s a head, while prime heavy wethers sold at Is and Is 6d per head down. Over the last three races only a few buyers were in attendance, and only choice lots were saleable. Medium woolly ewes were entirely neglected. Extra prime heavy woolly wethers sold to 27s 9d; shorn to 26s 7d; prime medium woolly, 24s 6d to 25s 6d; shorn, 21s 6d to 235; light and medium, woolly, 22s to 235; shorn, 16s to 19s. Fat lambs: 245 were penned, rather many for butchers’ requirements. Most of the lambs were only of average quality and barely made last sale’s rates. Best lambs .sold to 29s 3d; prime, 21s 6d to 245; light and medium, 17s to 21s.
