TREATY OBLIGATIONS
PROTEST AT GERMAN DISREGARD. BRITAIN RECORDS DISAPPROVAL. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 8.45 p.m. London, Nov. 28. The British Government feels obliged to record disapproval of Germany’s disregard of treaty obligations, says the Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent.
Sir John Simon conferred with Herr von Hoesch, German .Ambassador in London, and simultaneously Sir Eric Phipps, Ambassador at Berlin, visited Baron von Neurath, German Foreign Minister, to-day. Both interviews were in connection with an important debate in the House of Commons to-day on Mr. Winston Churchill’s amendment to the Address-in-Reply drawing attention to the inadequacy of Imperial defences, particularly air defences. It is understood Mr. Stanley Baldwin will speak on the subject.
A communique issued at Berlin says Sir Eric Phipps communicated to Baron von Neurath in the most friendly manner the contents of the statements being made in the House of Commons. It was at first rumoured that the ambassador handed to Baron von Neurath a Note protesting against German rearmament. This was denied, but it is believed this subject will be a feature of to-day’s debate.
