RISING REVENUE
POST AND TELEGRAPH FIGURES.
GRATIFICATION OF DEPARTMENT.

The Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. McNamara, announced that the revenue of the Post Office under all headings was disclosing an upward trend. While gratification was to be found in increased business, he said, an even greater satisfaction was to be derived from the indication the figures gave of the return to the Dominion of bette days. For the seven months ended October 31, the revenue of the several branches was as follows, the figures for the corresponding period of last year " being shown in parentheses;—Postages, £646,126 (£643,172); telegrams, £156,159 (£149,640); tolls, £244,314 (£225,451); telephones, £713,004 (£690,965). '
The total net revenue was £1,921,235 (£1,821,689) and the total net expenditure £1,546,097 (£1,469,850).
