Women’s singles:—Quarter-finals: Miss Hartigan defeated Mrs. Hopman, 6—B, 6—l, 6—3; Mrs. Westmacott defeated Miss Dearman, 12—10, 6—3; Miss Lyle defeated Miss Bickerton, 6—4, B—6; Miss Round defeated Mrs. Molesworth, 6—l, 6—2. Combined doubles—Quarter-finals: Hopman and Mrs. Hopman defeated Maier and Miss Hartigan, 6—2, 6—4; Kirby and Miss Lyle defeated Hughes and Miss Dearman, 7—5, 6—2; Menzel and Miss Bickerton defeated Quist and Miss Valkenburg, I—6, 6—4, 10—8; Perry and Miss Round defeated Dunlop and Mrs. Westmacott, 6—3, 6 —l.

Hopman played brilliantly in the last three sets to beat Menzel, whose form showed great improvement. Perry overwhelmed Moon in the first set and after that played steadily to win comfortably. Crawford’s form was most impressive. He was hitting his service with great power and driving well on both wings. Quist followed his good length drives to the net, where he volleyed in great style against Kirby. The South African’s forehand shots frequently found the net.
