OUTSTANDING DISPLAY GIVEN.

By Telegraph—Press Association.

Masterton, Last Night.

Considerable interest attached to the appearance at the Lansdowne links today of Gene Sarazen, the famous American golfer, who, partnered with Shaw, the New Zealand open and professional champion, played an exhibition match with T. H. Horton and J. P. Hornabrook, two Masterton amateurs. The professionals gained a lead of one up at the first hole and increased this to two up at the fourth. This lead they held until the 16th hole, which Sarazen won to clinch the match 3 and 2. The American was outstanding and showed himself a master of all his clubs. He did the round in 69, four under bogey and two more than the record of 67 held by Horton. Shaw returned a card of 70, Hornabrook 72 and Horton 75.
