SEA COW IDENTIFIED

BRITISH COLUMBIA DISCOVERY. BELIEVED EXTINCT 170 YEARS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 7 pan. Vancouver, Nov. 24. The museum authorities declare that the remains of a sea monster found on the British Columbia Island on Wednesday is a sea cow, native to Alaskan waters. It was believed to have been extinct for 170 years. It was recorded by Behring when he was wrecked on Kamchatka as 30 feet long and weighing about 8000 pounds. The body was decomposed and it was impossible to preserve it intact. The red flesh indicated that the creature was a warm-blooded marine mammal. The head was shaped somewhat like that of a horse. There was a tough, rough skin, the upper part of which had hair and the lower part quills like spines. The body contained no bones of importance except vertebrae. The body will be reconstructed as. far as is possible.
