GARDEN PARTY
KNOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
SUCCESSFUL GATHERING HELD.
Favoured with perfect weather, the garden party held on Saturday by the Knox Presbyterian Church workers, New Plymouth, was a complete success both socially and financially. In the grounds of the manse the vivid uniforms of the pipe band were set off to advantage. Led by the full band, Drum-Major Williamson carried the haggis and Mr. W. Johnston recited the ode.
The stall-holders were: Flowers, Mrs. Lankshear;/' cakes, Mrs.. Caiman; produce, Mrs. Francis; men’s stall, Messrs. Short and Petersen; needlework, Mrs. Coulter and Mrs. Tannahill; sweets, Miss Kathleen Gould; tennis, Miss M. Jack; croquet, Mrs. Smart and Mrs. Vickers; afternoon tea, Mrs. Govenlo.ck and Peattie and Bible class girls. Various competitions run by Mrs. Gilmour were judged by Mrs. Loveridge. Cooking competitions resulted as follows:— Madeira cake: Mrs. Francis 1, Mrs. Lankshear 2. Sultana cake: Mrs. Francis 1, Mrs. Smart 2, Mrs. Wood 3. Sponge cake: Mrs. Francis 1, Mrs. Thompson 2, Mrs. Cruden 3, Mrs. Clark h.c. Nut loaf: Mrs. Francis 1, Mrs. Smart 2. Shortbread: Mrs. Smart 1, Mrs. Gould 2, Mrs. Thompson 3. Oat cake: Mrs. Smart 1. Coconut ice: Joyce Thompson 1, Mrs. McNeil 2.
