CONTESTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. SEVERAL CLOSE FINISHES. ; More than 100 people attended the impromptu swimming carnival conducted at the New Plymouth municipal baths last night by the New Plymouth Swimming and Old Boys’ Surf Club. The water was warm and some fine swimming for so early in the season was seen. Detailed results are: — Men’s 50 yards:—First heat: J. Spedding (35.) 1, E. Colson (35.) 2. Second heat: L. Bennett (35.) 1/G. Rawson 2. Final; L. Bennett 1, E. Coleman 2. Junior girls’ 25 yards: J. Alleman (scr.) 1, M. Hoben (Bs.) 2. Women’s 33 1-3 yards: N. Fox (35.) 1, K. Skipper (scr.) 2. Junior boys’ 33 1-3 yards:—First heat: F. Vale (55.) 1, J. Bennett (35.) 2. Second heat: G. Rawson (scr.) 1, P. Hannan (25.) and D. Shaw (45.) 2 equal.- Final: G. Rawson 1, F. Vale ■ 2, D. Shaw 3. Inter-club relay: New Plymouth (Ames, R. Gayton, C. Whitehead, B. Meredith) (Is.) 1; New Plymouth Boys’ High School (G. Rawson, M. Ulenberg, Ferry and J. Simpson) (45.) 2. Polp: Fitzroy beat New Plymouth by two goals to one.
