“OKOARI” GOLE CLUB
ORGANISATION AT WESTOWN. FIRST ELECTION OF OFFICERS. A meeting of the golf club formed at Westown was held last night. Mr. Jas. Lobb presided over an attendance of between 40 and 50. It was decided tp call the club the Okoari club, chiefly because of the wishes of those wishing to preserve the identity of the old native reserve. Rules and constitution were adopted < The following officers were elected: President, Mr. Jag. Lobb; vice-president, Mr. W. Wagstaff; club captain, Mr. C. Clarke; management committee, Messrs. W. Wood, A. K. Smart, A. Coad, H. B. Leighton and W. Roebuck; auditor, Mr. W. S. Thomson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. G. Howell; general committee, Messrs. K. A. Thompson, H. W. Brown, R. Hooker, M. Sole, D. Thompson, C. Smart, S. Smith, J. Renwick and M. Lobb. Appreciation was expressed of the assistance given by Mr. P. Gray in the preliminary stages.. . . ; The chairman reported that nine greens had been laid down and the work was practically finished. Pastures had been laid down on the course and the links would be ready for play in March or April. Arrangements had been made for the erection of a suitable pavilion. Work hr ' been commenced in removing subdivisional fences and hedges .to clear the fairways.
