WAVERLEY SALE OF WORK
GENERAL NEWS OF DISTRICT. The Waverley Convent annual sale of work was held on Friday afternoon and was most successful. The stall-holders were kept busy and a clearance was made, the funds amounting to £6O. The winners of the competitions were: Sucking pig, Mrs. W. Boyd; serviettes, Mrs. Downs; cushion, Mrs. F. Cunningham; fire screen, Miss M. Cunningham; iced cake, Mr. N. Bromiley; trolley covers, Mr. H. W. James; bedspread, Mr. J. Kennedy, Karioi; table cover, Mr. J. Kennedy, Karioi; Christmas dinner, Mrs. McMillan, senr.; chocolates, Mrs. Robertson. On Monday afternoon the convent pupils were entertained, one of the chief attractions being a Christmas tree. Mrs. C. Nicholls, Waitara, and her daughter, Miss Beth Nicholls, are spending a few days with Mrs. Cleary, Hussey Street. At the recent Wanganui show Miss Walkinton and Mr. S. Besley won the David McFarlane trophy for the dual jump. Messrs. I. D. Parsons and C. V. Pearce, Waitotara, being second.
