MORRO CASTLE FIRE
REASONS FOR DEATHS GIVEN. DELAY IN S.O.S. MESSAGES. By Telegraph—Press Assn—Copyright. Washington, Nov. 7. The deaths of 84 passengers and 30 members of the crew of the luxury liner Morro Castle, which was burned at sea off the New Jersey coast on September 9, were attributed to-day by the United States Steamboat Inspection Service report to the rapid spread of the fire, delay in giving the fire alarm, ineffectiveness of the fire alarm system, failure to mark exits prominently, and delay of the officers in sending S.O.S. messages.
