MORE WEAR ON CARS
LESS EXPENDITURE ON ROADS. AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION VIEW. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. It is calculated by the Automobile Association (Wellington) that the extra wear and tear on motor-cars due to the nonexpenditure of motor tax money on roads costs motor-car owners of New Zealand a million pounds a year. Several speakers at the annual meeting of the association to-night expressed dissatisfaction at the position. The president, Sir Alexander Roberts, said he estimated that the total motor taxes amounted to £3,000,000 and of that nearly £2,000,000 was being transferred to purposes for which it had not been intended.
