Gillespie’s Beach gold return was 31oz 9dwt for 134 hours, states the Press Association. The Mataki return for the week ending October 14 was 340 z for 124 hours’ work. DROP IN BUTTER STOCKS. LACK OF DEMAND CONTINUES. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright London, Oct. 14. Butter stocks showed a drop of 300,000 boxes in a fortnight though actually only 269,000 boxes have been withdrawn from store. Tooley Street expected withdawals as the result of a steady, ever-rising market, but the lack of demand continues. Australian and New Zealand dealers are actually selling at Is to 2s a cwt below normal values. Australian is firmer than New Zealand, but a drop is expected at the week-end.
