CRICKET AT RIVERLEA

ANNUAL MEETING OF CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Riverlea Cricket Club the following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. A. Turner; president, Mr. H. R. Harre; vice-president, Mr. J. Kenyon; club captain, Mr. D. Gibson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Gibson; auditor, Mr. M. Voullaire senr.; selectors, Messrs. Smith and Clark; committee, Messrs. Clark, Leonard and Voullaire senr. Opening day was arranged for November 10, when a match will be played between married and single men. The new pitch, which was laid down on Mr. D. Gibson’s property last autumn, is in fine order, and it is hoped it will be ready for play in November. Practice evenings were fixed for Tuesdays and Thursdays. The secretary was asked to write neighbouring clubs with regard to sending delegates to meet the president and secretary of the Riverlea club at Riverlea to arrange the drawing of fixtures for a series of matches. It was decided to have no Sunday play, nor to allow the club’s material to be used on that day. Tennis Chib Affairs. At the meeting of the Riverlea Tennis Club the following officers were elected: President, Mr. J. Hey; vice-president, Mr. A. Rothe; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Hughes. As a preliminary to the opening day on October 27 a' match was arranged between teams chosen by the president and vice-president. It was proposed to put in hand at once the replacing of the broken posts, the repainting of the lines and general cleaning up around the court The name of Mrs. D. Benton, who sang two solos, was omitted from the list of ' performers at the recent Women’s Institute social. News has been received of the intended return at the end of October to New Zealand of Mir. A. T. Blakeley. Mr. Blakeley has for the past six months been on leave from the Kaupokonui Dairy Co. visiting his parents at Hull, England. The Riverlea Sunday school on Friday held its annual tea. After tea the children were amused with games. A short programme was' arranged with items by 7 pupils. Later in the evening supper was served, the Rev. Spencer was present.
