BOARD MEETING HELD. A OFFICERS’ REPORTS RECEIVED. The monthly meeting of the Hawera Hospital Board was held yesterday. Those present were Messrs. J. S. McKay (chairman), I. J. Bridger, A. G. Larcom, T. A. Winks, E. A. Washer, S. J. Bennett, W. G. Simpson, A. L. Campbell and E. J. Gifford. The medical superintendent, Dr. J. Caimey, reported that at the end of August S 6 patients remained. During the month 81 patients were admitted and 87 were discharged or died, leaving a total of 60. The daily average of occupied beds for September was 60.6 and for the last six months 60.1, compared with 60.03 for the same period last year. The daily average of patients to each of the nursing staff was 2.3. Eleven hospital cases in a total of 26 were dealt with in the X-ray cases. In the physio-theurapeutic department, 26 cases remained at the end of August. New cases during the month totalled 13, and 18 were discharged, leaving 21 still receiving treatment. A total of 381 treatments was given during the month, the daily average being 17.95. In the out patients’ department, 143 patients were attended, 481 treatments being given. Eleven patients had been in hospital for eight weeks or more. Mr. P. Rastall reported that there were 24 in the Old Peoples’ Home. Four men were still in hospital. The following gifts were acknowledged: The Methodist Church and Miss Elliott, flowers; the Scottish Society, a concert; Elderslie children’s choir, a concert; Church of England, a service. The Otago Hospital Board advised that a reciprocal agreement for 12 months with the Hawera board had been entered into for maintenance of patients in- each others’ districts, the arrangement not to apply to charitable aid assistance or specialist treatment.
