WELLINGTON PRINTERS FINED, REQUIREMENTS OF THE LAW. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Several Wellington printers received a reminder that the law requires them to register their presses, being each fined the minimum of £5. The police said that a number were reputable printers, but some had not known that they had to register. One had a press in a motor garage. A number had registered their presses since receiving the summonses. Mr. W. F. Stillwell, S.M., remarked that it was surprising that men in the printing trade did not know an Act which affected them so vitally. It was not for a magistrate to question the advisability of the law. He said in reference to representations by counsel that the charges should be withdrawn that he had to administer the law as he found it. The names of those concerned were E. J. Connolly, N. Westwood Craig, W. Franks, T. K. Garrett, E. F. Jones, F. B. Mackay, T. G Ricketts, the T.P.R. j, Printing Co. Ltd., Commercial Printing and Publishing Co., Fleet Printing Gog? Art Printing Co. and McKenzie, Thomton and Cooper. All pleaded guilty. : ‘ Detective-Sergeant Hall said the full facts of the cases had been reported to the Commissioner of Police, who had given instructions for the prosecutions to be brought. .
