AMATEUR GOLFING STARS
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. MAY PLAY AT WAIWAKAIHO. A team of leading British amateur golfers, including such well-known stars as the Hon. Michael Scott, Jack McLean and Leslie Gamet, will visit Australia in November for the big events at the Melbourne centenary. They will later visit New Zealand, possibly playing at New Plymouth. The secretary of the New Zealand Golf Association, Mr. G. O. Sutton, has received a cablegram from Mr. Arthur Sims of Christchurch (at present at London) stating that all members of the Royal and Ancient golf team, including Mr. Henry Gullen, the secretary, who will be manager of the team, had agreed to visit New Zealand and that the Australian itinerary is not yet fixed, _ but Mr. Sims hoped to cable again in a week’s time.
When interviewed on the prospect of New Plymouth being included in the itinerary, Mr. F. S. Johns, the captain of the New Plymouth Club, said that the matter would ha. to be considered by the committee, but he thought it was more than probable that the club would make endeavours to arrange for the visiting team to play at Waiwakaihq.
