WAVERLEY SPRING SHOW

GENERAL ITEMS OF DISTRICT. The spring bulb show, which Was held in St. Andrew’s hall, Waverley, to raise funds for the painting and repairs fund was a great success, many beautiful blooms being exhibited. The prizewinners were:— Long trumpet daffodils: Mrs. C. Dickie 1, Mrs. Belton 2. Double daffodils: Mrs. C. Dickie 1 and 2. Collection of daffodils: Mrs. C. Dickie 1 and 2. Collection of daffodils, novices: Mrs. G. Lupton 1, Mrs. C. Southcombe 2. Collection of anemones: Mrs. Dallison 1, Mrs. J. Pepper 2. Collection of polyanthus and primroses: Mrs. Parsons 1, Mrs. Perkins 2. There was a short musical programme which was much enjoyed. Those contributing items came from Hawera and Patea, and the programme was: Instrumental trio, Mrs. Fyson, Mrs. A. Corrigan and Miss B. Pinson; recitation, Mrs. Strange; songs, Miss Mawhinney; recitation, Miss I. McDonald. In conjunction with the bulb show, there was a jumble and sweet stall. The stall-holders were Mrs. Lamont, Mrs. W. Morrison, Mrs. D. Walker and auxiliary girls. The Rev. Mr. Stuart thanked all who had helped, especially the artists and Mrs. Shields, Patea, who had judged the flowers. The repair fund benefited by £2O or more. The monthly meeting of the Waverley School Committee was held last week. The secretary (Mr. N. Bromiley) presented a financial statement showing a small surplus on the first six months of the year, and, as there had been several large accounts paid which would be nonrecurring the committee expressed gratification. The chairman spoke in appreciation of the Education Board’s action in haying the school painted. Miss King, New Plymouth, is a visitor to Waverley, and is staying at “Awatea.” Mr. and Mrs. F. Cunningham motored through from Waverley to Eketahuna on Saturday. Miss Nancy Palmer, who has been spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Palmer, returned to Dunedin at the end of the week. Mrs. Shearman journeyed to Auckland during the week, where she will spend some time with friends. Miss Elsie Wall, Waverley, is spending a holiday of two or three weeks at Wanganui.
