AUSTRALIANS AGAIN BEATEN
HOCKEY MATCH WITH MANAWATU. VISITORS’ POORER COMBINATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The Australian hockey touring team was defeated to-day by Manawatu by 2 goals to .1. The home team played excellently, dominating the play most of the first spell and leading at the interval by 1 goal to 0. Manawatu increased the margin after the resumption and it was not till a late stage that the visitors scored. The hitting on both sides was hard and fast, but the Australian forwards had poorer combination, despite their experience, than the Manawatu men. Scores were made by Turner and Hoaro for Manawatu and by Sterling for Australia. Sterling was the best forward of the side. The rugged defence of the home backs was a feature of the game. In a curtain-raiser Victoria University College beat Massey College by 3 goals to 2.
