GOODS SHED FOR FITZROY

REQUEST TO STATIONMASTER. ~ * DANGER AT WAIWAKA BRIDGE. He had interviewed the stationmaster at New Plymouth (Mr. W. Stewart) about a railway goods shed for Fitzroy, pointing out that Fitzroy had . a population about equal to that of Stratford, which justified the request, said the 'chairman (Mr. L. N. Fairhall) at last night’s meeting of the executive of the Fitzroy Ratepayers’ Association. It had been stated by the stationmaster- that there was not much business done at Fitzroy. ' . He had admitted this, added Mr. Fairhall, but he had pointed out that this was simply because there was no officer in charge. He was sure there would be a certain amount of business If an officer were at Fitzroy, and it would help to relieve the congestion at New Plymouth. The stationmaster would bring the matter before the department if the executive put in ■ a request, said Mr. Fairhall. Members stated that goods addressed to Fitzroy by rail were put off there, and often consignees were not aware of the goods arrival. The secretary said in one instance a case of fruit had been put off at Fitzroy and when the consignee got it there was little fruit left. A committee consisting of - Messrs. Chainey, Burton and Yeates was appointed to secure information on the formation of a road giving access to the beach. It was reported in connection with the flooding of the public telephone booth that some adjustment of the spouting had been made, and further work would probably be done to prevent a recurrence. Consideration. of the Vogeltown Progressive Association’s protests at. the erection of a new library'on the proposed site opposite the New Plymouth railway station was deferred. It was decided to request the borough ■ council to alter the bridge over Te : Henui River- at Waiwaka Terrace near ■ the Girls’ High School to permit of a I footway for pedestrians. It was stated that two cars could not pass on the bridge, which was dangeroys for pedestrians, particularly the large number of school children. It was decided to request the Taranaki ,

Automobile Association to erect '‘onecar bridge” notices at each end of the bridge. There were present Messrs. Fairhall, A. J. Chainey, C. H. Burton, P. Yeates, A. J. Abraham and G. B. Purdue.
