CHAMPIONSHIPS BEGUN FITZROY QUALIFYING ROUNDS S. CLARK LEADS SENIOR FIELD. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions prevailing, the first qualifying round for the Fitzroy club’s championship was played on Saturday. The course was in good order, and under the circumstances the scoring was quite good. S. Clark has a commanding lead among the seniors, his 80 being a fine effort. In the junior division G. Pullen is leading with 93, but Freethy, Chapman and Weir are all close up. The following were the best cards:— Senior. S. Clark 80. C. Granger, J. McLock 86. W. Short 91. J. Lobb, O. E. Flyger 92. A. Chapman, 96—30—66, 21 the junior. CAPE EGMONT CHAMPIONSHIP. MISS B. FLEMING’S WOMEN’S TITLE. The Cape Egmont club’s championships were continued during the week-end and have now all reached the final and semifinal stage. In the final of the women’s championship Miss B. Fleming defeated Mrs E. H. Gray after a close game. Results are:— Women’s Senior. Final: Miss B. Fleming defeated Mrs. E. H. Gray 2 and 1. Women’s Junior. Second round: Miss C. Semi-final: L. Beardmore won from P. C. Smith by default; J. Priest defeated W. Bennett 5 and 4. RAIN PREVENTS PLAY. FLAG MATCH POSTPONED. The flag match arranged .by the New Plymouth Ladies’ Golf Club at Waiwakaiho on Saturday was postponed on account of the rain, and will be played next Saturday. Thompson 3 and 1 in the intermediate championship final at Eltham yesterday. The competition is for a trophy presented by Mr. H. R. Casey. RESULTS AT RAWHITIROA. PATON WINS CASEY TROPHY. S. Knuckey with a score of 95—28—67 was the winner of a one-club medal round at Rawhitiroa. The runner-up was D. Knuckey, with 81—13—68. The final of the competition for Mr. A. O. Casey’s trophy was won by L. Paton with a score of 97—26—71. The runner-up was A. Phillips, 92—20 —72. ELTHAM TEAM’S LARGE MARGIN. PATEA VISITORS DEFEATED. A Patea team was easily beaten by Eltham at Eltham yesterday. Patea won only two games, and finished all square in one. Results of morning and afternoon rounds, with Eltham players first mentioned, are:— Abbott and L. Quin beat Hunger and Currie 2 up and 2 up. Wills and Cooper lost to Shield and Bourn 1 down and won 1 up. J. Quin and S. McKay beat Haddow and Harris 3 and 2 and 1 up. H. Casey and A. Stewart beat Dobson and Mehnrry 5 and 4 and 5 and 4.
