OPUNAKE DISTRICT NEWS
CHURCH GATHERINGS SUCCESSFUL. ' The Eltham concert party recently gave an enjoyable programme in aid of the Opunake Anglican Church funds. The contributors were Mesdames Rankin, Pennington, Misses E. Peebles, Burrows, Mehrtens, Wilson, Carter, Fake, Messi’s. Carson, Lambie, Craig, Silver, Edwards, Ritter, W. Mehrtens. Songs, ballets, elocutionary items and a playlet “The Dear Departed.” The vicar, the Rev. A. J. Farnell, thanked the visitors for the excellent concert. The visitors were entertained at supper in the .hall by the ladies of the parish.
. On Friday night a large crowd attended the euchre party held in St. Patrick’s Hall in aid of Catholic Church funds. Miss P. Hickey won the ladies’ first prize and Mrs. G. Parsons was second. Mr. D. Johnson and Mr. V. Anderson tied for the men’s prize, Mr. Johnson winning the play-off. Mr. Anderson was awarded second prize. The hostesses, Mesdames W. Markham and C. O. Edmonds, supplied supper. Many children attended a party on Friday night to further the candidature of Mr. C. N. Thayer in the Methodist mayoral contest. After the children had had supper games and community singing were enjoyed. Mr. Rod McTavish delighted the young audience with conjuring tricks and Guide Nairne Ross sang two songs.
