TARANAKI ON HOLIDAY
KING’S BIRTHDAY PROGRAMME. WIDE VARIETY OF ENTERTAINMENT A wide variety of interest is a feature of holiday arrangements made for the King’s Birthday celebration to-day. Sports catering for a wide range of tastes are on the bill. A large share of public interest will probably be claimed by the Taranaki-Wanganui representative Rugby football match at Wanganui, especially as it is the’ first representative match of the season. Football enthusiasts have also a Taranaki BWanganui B match at New Plymouth, a game between North Taranaki juniors and the Schneider Cup representatives, also at New Plymouth, and a seven-a-side tournament at Patea. For League supporters the game between Inglewood and Taupiri (South Auckland), to be played at Inglewood, should provide good entertainment. Golfers will be interested in the tournament at Eltham, one of the big events of the Taranaki season, and tournaments have also been’ arranged at Fitzroy and Opunake. At the Waiwakaiho links a medal round and four-ball . best-ball bogey match will be played. Mount Egmont will probably be the Mecca of many hundreds of Taranaki and visiting people. A hunt will be held on Mr. Cole’s property at Waipapa. To complete the day’s programme the popular series of tug-of-war contests will be continued at Oaonui. At Hawera the main event will be the big hockey tournament, which is to be followed by a ball. The Taranaki basketball tournament is also to be held at Hawera.
At Manaia there will be the schools’ basketball and Rugby tournament. .The annual junior Rugby tournament wili be held at Patea, where also the rifle club will hold its annual shooting meeting.
