Masterton, Last Night The Wairarapa golf championship tournament opened on Saturday on the Masterton links and was attended by some notable competitors, including five KirkWindeyer Cup players, all of whom, besides two other schratch players, qualified. Among the surprises of the contest was the defeat of Brinsden by Silk and of J. L. Black by the local player Campbell Heard.
The semi-finals will be played to-mor-row morning, the draw being: Homabrook (Masterton) v. Guy Home (Hutt), Horton (Masterton) v. Silk (Wanganui). Golf of good standard has been ■ witnessed, as is evidenced by the fact that' Homabrook with rounds of 70 and 71 headed the list of qualifiers, 14 strokes ahead of last year’s leader.
