EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE
FIERCE CYCLONE SWEEPS PORT. FREMANTLE BUILDINGS WRECKED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Fremantle, May 1. A fierce cyclone swept Fremantle today, doing extensive damage to property. A house was blown down and a man killed. Many outbuildings were unroofed. Ships dragged at their anchors and wharf bulk handling appliances were displaced or damaged. The cyclone demolished a large portion of a Government store, damaged a cargo shed, destroyed or damaged about 20 houses, whilst trees were uprooted, fences flattened and electric light and telephone wires broken. Several people were injured by flying iron roofing. The cyclone developed from a huge waterspout at sea. It struck the coast near Quay at Fremantle, and continued its course inland with a speed of about 85 miles an hour and a path of about 200 yards wide. The entire disturbance lasted only three minutes.
