FEILDING RACE MEETING

ALL EVENTS FILL WELL STRONG TARANAKI CONTINGENT. AGA KHAN AND ORAPAI FANCIED.

(By

“Hurry On.”)

Taranaki stables will be strongly represented at the Feilding Jockey Club s autumn meeting, which opens to-day. The provincial horses have all been working well and should be capable of giving a good account of themselves. All the events have drawn good fields and the racing should be interesting. KAWA KAWA HURDLES. Of £l3O. About 1J miles and 130 yards. Manuiri 10 11 Inrictus 9 0 Pahu 10 9 Manawatu 9 0 Silent Bill 9 9 Chief Line 9 0 • Tunbridge 9 6 Royston 9. 0 Manuiri has raced consistently during the autumn and despite his big weight is likely to command a solid following. Pahu may need the race and this also applies to Tunbridge. Silent Bill has shown promise at times, while Invictus has only to be caught in the right humour to take a hand in the finish. Manawatu and Chief Line are newcomers to the game but both have been schooling well. Possibly most support will come for Manuiri, Silent Bill and Chief Line.

Gay Court and Chief Marionette are likely to need some racing, but All Spirit won well at Bulls and is evidently improving. Artful Dodger’s form at Opunake was all wrong and he will do much better here. Merry Way ran two good races at Opunake and has gone the right way since then. Land Tax and Tycoon are useful but Sunny Downs makes more appeal.. He won like a good horse at Te Rapa. Boudoir, Leo Colossus and Moatoa are all possibilities. Speculation will take a wide range here, but the popular fancies may be SunnyDowns, All Spirit and Leo Colossus.

MANCHESTER HANDICAP. Of £3OO. One mile and a-quarter.

Aga Khan 9 0 Alloy 7 . S Grand Jury 812 Copper King 7 5 Tiger Gain 8 9 Aga Khan is right at the top of his form and he made the opposition look very -cheap on the second day at Awapuni. Grand, Jury does not appear to have regained his Trentham form, but Tiger Gain seldom runs a bad race bn this course, having Won a race at both his appearances. Alloy cannot be counted out and Copper King can run a merry mile and a-quarter under a light weight. The public may pin its faith to Aga Khan and Tiger Gain. d

MAIDEN STAKES. Of £lOO. Six furlongs. Dawn Princess Bold Jim Mrtorni Grand Joy Indefinite Hard Times High Exchange Lapel Hest Wharaurangi Royal Quex Waipiro Headland

Matorni’s two seconds in his last two starts draw attention to his chances here and the. Paper Money three-year-old’s pace will be a big asset on the turning track. Wharaurangi showed plenty of speed at Opunake and the well-bred Waipiro gave promise of better things at Wanganui. Bold Jim is another who has shown fair form. The likely favourites are Matomi, Waipiro and Bold Jim.

weights and if Souchong has freshened up during the last few weeks the topweight would be hard put to concede weight to the big chestnut. However, Orapai has a handy impost and his recent track-work has been of a high order. He has shown a partiality for the Feilding track in the past, having won three races, a second and two fourths in six starts. British Columbia is also well treated and would only have to be at his best to be well in the picture. Porotiti failed at Awapuni and Good Hunting, Diagano and Lack all represent good light-weight chances. Those to find favour should include Orapai, Good Hunting and Diagano. TAONUI NURSERY HANDICAP. Of £lOO. Five furlongs.

Awapuni that she is sure to be well in the market here. The Tea Tray filly can muster up a great turn of pace. Bodyline is only a moderate but Whyte Melville is a likely improver.. The Taranaki trio, Rollovant, Aussie Ra and Windsoreen, will all go good races, while Evasion showed a good turn of speed at Bulls. Probably Silver Wings, Aussie Ra and Whyte Melville will have most friends.

and he has the job in front of him. However, he is a good horse and he can handle weight. Pango is racing well at present, but both will find it hard to concede the poundage to Lalla Quex, who is improving all the time. At his best Red Rufus would have a chance, and Ralphyllis stays on. However, the' issue would appear to lie between Lalla Quex, Walton Park and Pango.

and the Fordell representative will see a short price. Aiguille, Ruri and Emotion both showed to advantage at Awapuni, and Ida Merling, Senegal and Sanguine King are all useful over this distance. Farmer, Aiguille and Ida Merling make most appeal.
