EXAMINATION SUCCESSES

TECHNICAL EVENING STUDENTS. The New Plymouth High Schools Board last evening passed a motion of appreciation to Mr. A. L. Moore, technical director, the teachers of the evening classes and the successful students in the examination of evening students last year. . Mr. Moore in his report said the successes had been very satisfactory. ■ Two students obtained a section of B.A. degree, 16 a section of the accountants professional examination (nine in three subjects, six in two subjects and one completed in one subject), one a junior shorthand-typiste’s examination of the Public Service Commissioner, and nine Pitman’s speed certificate. Two apprentices passed the preliminary examination, two the intermediate and four the final examination in motor engineering. This year’s enrolments were: English and arithmetic, first year 29, second year 21, apprentices 16; shorthand and typewriting, junior 60, senior 39; book-keep-ing, elementary 42, stage 1 21, stages TT and HI 26; mercantile law, stage 1 10, stages II and 111 10; company law 12, auditing, 8, trustee law 11, bankruptcy 7, economics 8, English, inters mediate 8, senior 6; French 11, Latin 6, drawing 1 and II 14, trade drawing 11, mathematics 13, dressmaking 27; commercial art 15, carpentry and joinery 19, motor engineering 17, workshop practice 18, electric wiring 11, plumbing 11, invalid cookery 12. Classes in motor engineering (senior), theory and practice, and electrical and mechanical engineering had to be discontinued owing 'to ’ the small numbers enrolling. The board decided to place on record its appreciation of the services of Mr. H. Ibbotson, who had been engaged as a part-time instructor for the motor engineering classes for the past five years.
