FIRST YEAR SUCCESSFUL

VOGELTOWN SCHOOL ASSOCIATION.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES REVIEWED.

The first annual meeting of the Vogeltown Home and School Association was held last night. The meeting was well attended. The retiring president, Mr. W. H. Broome, in presenting his report summarised the year’s activities.' The association’s object, he said, in addition to that concerned with general social activities, was to raise funds to build a hall. During the year the committee had organised fortnightly card partied and cribbage tournaments. These had proved both financially and socially successful, but dances organised by the association had not received the same support. The year closed with a credit balance of £ll 13s Bd. It was confidently expected that the fund would be substantially increased this year, as a number of initial expenses would not recur. Several enjoyable social evenings had also been held. The association was appreciative of the services of Mr. R. Gilbert, who had organised the musical programmes. Thanks were accorded all supporters, including Mr. G. Lawrence, who had donated a picture and Mrs.. S. J, Moore, who had given the-association! a lampshade. Help had been given the school committee in the matter of organising the breaking-up . function. The children had had a most enjoyable time. It was decided to reduce the executive committee from 15 to 11 members on which the school staff and. the school committee would have one representative each. The general committee would, comprise those members present at the annual meeting with the addition of the school staff. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. S. R. Smith; vice-presi-dents, Messrs.' L. J. Bellringer and S. Millar. The treasurer and secretary will later be elected at a meeting , of the executive committee. The executive will comprise Mesdames T. Johns, W. H. Broome, A. T. Moore, S; Smith and E. Prentice'and Mr. S. Smith in addition to the president and vice-presidents. The executive will consider the advisability of organising social evenings during the year for those not interested in cards and dancing.
