BRITISH EMPIRE GAMES

NOMINATIONS FROM WEST COAST.

DECISION TO BE MADE LATER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, March 6. Nominations of athletes for inclusion in the New Zealand team to compete in the British Empire Games at London in August of this year were received by a meeting of the New Zealand A.A.A. last night from each of the centres except the West Coast (North Island). They were considered in committee and the council decided to wait until March 26, by which time the visiting Australian team will have appeared against the North Island athletes, before making recommendations to the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. In a letter covering a copy of the rules the secretary of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association said that final nominations must be forwarded not later than March 31. The actual date of the departure of the team had not been definitely fixed, but would be about the middle of June, and the team probably would return towards the end of September. He made reference to the fact that the team would be in England for a longer period than that covered by the English Association. This would mean finding about £6O per man by the associations whose men are finally selected. This resulted in a debate and the adoption of a resolution to ask the Olympic and British Empire Games Association to stand by its resolution of two or three years ago for the amount overdrawn to send the New Zealand team to the Olympic Games in 1932 to be recouped in four equal instalments; also to ask the association to contribute up to £3OO towards-the expenses of the team going to London. The South African A.A.A. wrote asking if it were possible for New Zealand to accept an invitation for the New Zealand Empire Games team to travel via South Africa. The South African Association would be prepared to pay any extra cost and defray all expenses in South Africa.

It was decided to send the letter to the New Zealand. Olympic and British Empire Games Association.
