MEETING AT WOODVILLE

DANNEVIRKE RACING CLUB SPIRAL’S CUP PROSPECTS. POMP ABLE TO CARRY WEIGHT.

(By

“Hurry On.”)

The Dannevirke Racing Club’s meeting will open on the Woodville racecourse to-day. " Owners have rallied round the club and good fields will contest all events. Proceedings open with the

Te Ua and Miss Hushabye have been racing prominently of late but Walton Park is more than useful in this class of event. Easterly’s good showing at Bulls entitles him to respect. The favourites may be Miss Hushabye and Walton Park.-

This is not a good field. The best supported may be War Eagle, who was confidently backed at Bulls, and Hard

Catalogue was backed and beaten twice on this track a fortnight ago, but though that racing should have improved him Spiral, who will have the services of L. J. Ellis, will probably be preferred. Copper King has been racing consistently, while Chopin showed signs of improvement at Napier. The favourites may be Spiral and Chopin.

Though he is many removes from a champion, Bodyline has the best credentials of those engaged here. Opposition may come from Whyte, Melville and Balbus.

Souchong’s showing oh Saturday at Napier would- seem to indicate that he has had too much racing lately. Royal Routine raced well at Wanganui, while La Poupee, Lady. Nan, Good Hunting and Aston raced prominently enough at Woodville to draw attention to their chances. Possibly Royal Routine, Aston and Good Hunting maybe best'backed.

Hunting Jay is. a good . hack but he has his share of weight. Land Tax and Bon Rapide were both winners at Bulls and the latter should be improved as a result of her race’there. Bellbroney won a double at-Napier and is regarded as very promising. . Moatoa is also in form. Most support may come for Bellbroney, Bon Rapide and Moatoa.

The distance may not be quite far enough for Hazoor, and the tracks are too hard for West Tor at present. Secrecy would appear likely to run well as the field is not strong. Grand Blow, Sir Romeo, Gay Coat and Te Rangitimau are all possibilities. Those to find most support may be Secrecy, Hazoor and Grand Blow.

Pomp handles weight well and with L. J. Ellis aboard is likely to be a good favourite. Opposition may come from Speed and La Modeme.-
