DUCHESS OF YORK
NEW FASHION IN DOGS.
TOY ANIMAL FROM TIBET.
London, Feb. 27.
The Duchess of York is seting a new fashion in toy dogs, with a sacred Tibetan lion dog, rarely seen in Britain. The dog has long hair which hides its eyes and very woolly legs. When lying stretched out it resembles a small . woolly mat, and it is impossible to distinguish the head and tail. The Duchess formerly favoured sporting dogs, but recently she has become fascinated by this lively and friendly breed and ordered one from Norway. Lion dogs formerly were kept within the walls of Lhassa. Smuggling them out was punishable by death, although for centuries they were sent as a yearly tribute to the Emperor of China by the late Dalai Lama.
