JUDGE’S REMARKS CRITICISED. COMMITTEE'S ANNUAL MEETING "Only n .schoolboy’s remarks,” was the way Mr. 11. C. A. Fox characterised the remarks of the New Zealand bands contest Judge, Captain Buckley, concerning the Unworn Municipal Band at the annual meeting of the band last night. Mr. Fox road the judge’s criticism and al various places pointed out what he considered was wrong in it. The judge, he said, hud not touched once on the bond's general interpretation of the selections. The comments fpr the most part were favourable and Hawera had received high marks. Other speakers criticised the judge’s decision and said the Hawera Band had performed so well in the hymn and march that it could not have slipped so badly in the selections. “It was only one man's opinion,” said a speaker. Mr. E. Dixon said the judge’s report justified the Hawera Band having entered for the A grade. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr. E. Dixon; secretary, Mr. C. J. Roberts; citizens’ committee, Messrs W. G. Simpson, R. F. Page, J. Champion, F. Foden, B. Johnson, A. D.‘ Guy; honorary auditor, Mr. E. K. Cameron; honorary solicitor, Mr. D. G. Smart; bandmaster, Mr. E. Gould; sergeant, Mr. G. Rowe; corporal, Mr. K. Gould; lance-corporal and roll steward, Mr. C. Perrett; drum-major, Mr. M. R. Johns; librarian, Mr. J. Carter; custodian, Mr. J. Kay. Mr. Dixon would not accept nomination for’* the position of president and the appointment of another was left in the meantime. Mrs. C. S. Pearce and Mr. A. G. Ogden were elected life members.

Mr. Dixon presented to Mr. G. Sayers the medal presented by Captain Buckley for the best comet player under 17.
