FACTORY INSPECTION MADE
PRIME MINISTER VISITS DUNEDIN. INTEREST IN THE MANUFACTURES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. Stating that it was a revelation to him to find that many things which one assumed were imported from abroad were the product of New Zealand workmen, the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) expressed great interest in what he saw when he was taken on a visit of inspection to a number of factories this morning. Mr. Forbes had a busy day, for after his tour he was entertained at luncheon by the Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association. He delievered a Jong address during which he gave a comprehensive review of conditions in the Dominion, holding out the hope that all classes would benefit by increased prices for wool and meat.
Two deputations brought before Mr. Forbes matters connected with unemployment. One of these sought an almost complete reversal of the Government’s policy, the Prime Minister being unperturbed by the continual interruptions during the course of his reply. The other deputation sought an increase in rates of pay for relief workers outside city areas.
Mr. Forbes also paid a visit to the Returned Soldiers’ Club and in the evening was accorded a reception by the city council. He will leave for the north tomorrow morninfe.
