minister reports increase. 80 PER CENT. OF ESTABLISHMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association.’ Wellington, Last Night. A statement that recruiting under the voluntary enlistment scheme was increasing was made by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) to-day. The Minister said that last month the percentage of enrolment, excluding bandsmen, on the establishment of the force was 80 per cent., which showed that the steady increase in the number of men enlisting was being maintained. The strength of the infantry was 3418, as against the establishment of 4100; the strength of the mounted rifles was 2086 as against the establishment of 1998, and the figures for artillery were 1413 and 2188 respectively.
